As some of you know, we've been raising #Monarchs at the campground, in our store The Outpost! They are due to be released on Thursday or Friday (7/11 or 7/12)! The train show downtown South Haven MI, in the basement of city hall is Wonderful!! If you're in #SouthHaven it's a great activity on a snowy cold day! Working on our new butterfly garden, one of our new features for next year's 2022 camping season. To prepare for our new flowers and other plants first we burnt all of the wild grasses, this helps promote new growth. Now comes the digging and planting, thankfully we've got great little helpers! We love doing things like this on the campground, especially when we get to involve the girls. Their reward for doing such great hard work? Bordering the Kal-Haven Outpost the Kal-Haven Trail, is a rail trail that originally ran 33.5 miles between South Haven, MI, to a point just west of the city of Kalamazoo, MI, where there is a trailhead. In 2008 the trail was extended east from the trailhead to downtown Kalamazoo as part of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. The Kal-Haven Trail runs along the former route of the Kalamazoo and South Haven Railroad, as does a section of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. It traverses wooded areas, farmland and small towns. Currently, the trail passes through the following locations, from east to west: Alamo, Michigan Mentha, Michigan Kendall, Michigan Pine Grove Mills, Michigan Gobles, Michigan Bloomingdale, Michigan Berlamont, Michigan Grand Junction, Michigan Lacota, Michigan Kibbe, Michigan South Haven, Michigan In 1870 the Kalamazoo-South Haven Railroad was built to transport mostly lumber. The railroad operated between Kalamazoo and South Haven for just over 100 years spanning from 1870-1973 when the line was abandoned. The Kal-Haven Trail State Park was slated to be dedicated October of 1976. The trail was to be a pilot project that was modeled off other trails that had been done in Wisconsin and Illinois. We are a newer campground est 2016, so we may not as heavily developed as some other campgrounds but we've still got lots to offer our guests. From our entertainment areas featuring a playground, with a jungle gym style playset, swings, slides, rock wall, mini rope bridge, airplane-shaped teeter-totter, and geometric dome, beach-style volleyball, horseshoes, a disc golf basket, free yard, and board games to borrow, to shaded biking/ walking trails crisscrossing the property, and our state-of-the-art impeccable bathhouse featuring private hot-showers with dressing rooms, a handicap accessible bathroom with its own shower, and men and women restrooms.
