Free rides downtown!!! We are so excited to announce that we have become a weekend stop for the Van Buren Star bus!! Our route times on Saturday and Sunday are 10:15am and 3:15pm. At this moment there is no fare rate, free rides to and from town (at the specified times). How it works: if you'd like a ride to the trailhead in South Haven MI, come to our store at the front of the property The Outpost by 10:10am or 3:10pm. Bikes can be ported as well, you must secure them to the bus. The bus will come at 10:15am and 3:15pm, drop you off at the trailhead. A few incredible drone shots we took from over the campground during Fridays storm. With near whiteout conditions even while standing still. We just couldn't resists getting outside and seeing what we could see and capture with the campgrounds new drone. With all the incredible sights around the campground and our beautiful town of South Haven we figured a drone would offer us a wonderful new look at them all. We must say we have not been disappointed! Though Spring and Fall times do offer amazing beauty around the campground, but seeing it covered in snow from a birds-eye view with all the snowflakes falling around us is definitely one of our newest favorite sights for sure. We hope everyone has stayed warm and stayed safe during these winter storms we've been having and is able to find the immense beauty in all this cold and snow. Check out these kinda creepy, but super cool pictures taken from around the campground on a foggy full moonlight night. These were taken by one of our guests shortly after a rainstorm. Thankfully they weren't about to let a little rainstorm rain on their parade and ended up with some incredible memories as well as these awesome photos. After managing to grill out in the heaviest portion of the rain, they enjoyed their dinner with a couple drinks. Shortly after finishing their meal, the clouds began to part letting the moonlight shine through revealing the beautiful yet eerie fog. Not wanting to let such a wonderful view escape them, they decided to take a walk around the campground. Working on our new butterfly garden, one of our new features for next year's 2022 camping season. To prepare for our new flowers and other plants first we burnt all of the wild grasses, this helps promote new growth. Now comes the digging and planting, thankfully we've got great little helpers! We love doing things like this on the campground, especially when we get to involve the girls. Their reward for doing such great hard work? Bordering the Kal-Haven Outpost the Kal-Haven Trail, is a rail trail that originally ran 33.5 miles between South Haven, MI, to a point just west of the city of Kalamazoo, MI, where there is a trailhead. In 2008 the trail was extended east from the trailhead to downtown Kalamazoo as part of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. The Kal-Haven Trail runs along the former route of the Kalamazoo and South Haven Railroad, as does a section of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. It traverses wooded areas, farmland and small towns. Currently, the trail passes through the following locations, from east to west: Alamo, Michigan Mentha, Michigan Kendall, Michigan Pine Grove Mills, Michigan Gobles, Michigan Bloomingdale, Michigan Berlamont, Michigan Grand Junction, Michigan Lacota, Michigan Kibbe, Michigan South Haven, Michigan In 1870 the Kalamazoo-South Haven Railroad was built to transport mostly lumber. The railroad operated between Kalamazoo and South Haven for just over 100 years spanning from 1870-1973 when the line was abandoned. The Kal-Haven Trail State Park was slated to be dedicated October of 1976. The trail was to be a pilot project that was modeled off other trails that had been done in Wisconsin and Illinois. All beautifully done, always kept clean and sanitized, with a great track record for being highly rated especially for cleanliness even long before Covid.
